FITPOD Barre founder Angela Smith reveals surprising Barre facts.

FITPOD Barre instructor and founder of Barre KZN, Angela Smith, shares a few things you might not know about Barre: 

  • Each Barre class is a one-hour long workout that incorporates a range of different modalities, including Pilates, strength and resistance training and cardio.
  • All ladies are welcome. It is not a ballet or dance class, and you don’t need to have any level of experience or fitness to join.
  • Barre originated in the UK in the late 1950’s, and originally incorporated ballet, Pilates and yoga.
  • Every Barre class is different – it all depends on your instructor. Some classes are slower and more focused, while others are high-energy and upbeat.
  • There are four types of classes at Barre KZN: Barre Cardio, Barre Sculpt, Barre Basics and Barre At FITPOD you can join Barre Cardio and Barre Sculpt Classes.

The Barre community is incredibly welcoming and accepting. There are no ‘airs and graces’ and you can come as you are!
