Sculpt Pilates owner Angelique Roux’s FITPOD Pilates classes are challenging, fun and a great combination of classic BASI Pilates exercises with a little contemporary flair. She shares some of the most common myths and misconceptions about Pilates:
- “Pilates is just like yoga.”
No, Pilates is absolutely not like yoga. Both are very different disciplines. Yoga focusses a lot on lengthening and stretching, where Pilates comprises of 12 blocks of training and only one of those is dedicated to stretching. - “Pilates is only for women.”
Nope! It is incredibly beneficial to men as well – of all ages and fitness levels. Pilates is also fantastic for sportsmen like golfers, runners and cyclists. - “Pilates is easy.”
Try a class and you will quickly see that that is definitely not the case. If you are going to a qualified instructor, a master at their craft who has their client’s best intentions at heart, you will see that even the simplest of exercises is not easy. It’s not about what we do, it’s the way we do it. - “Pilates is only for ‘older’ people.”
Not at all. Pilates is for anyone and everyone, no matter your age, gender, size or fitness level. In fact, the younger you start, the better!
